Book Cover: Higgs Boson

Here’s a new design I did today – they range form fun to serious – to conceptually correct yet utterly boring but well set out.

I think I’m going to be disagreed with on this one, but my preference (far and away) is Dark Building Blocks. I know it isn’t one of the “fun” covers, but I also don’t see it as particularly serious (as in academic tome serious). And I definitely don’t see it as boring. No way! If I were in a bookstore and saw these face-up on a table, I’d pick up (and probably buy) Building Blocks. BTW, back in the 50’s, the late, great Issac Asimov wrote a terrific (and very readable) book called “Building Blocks of the Universe.” My mother had a huge amount of intellectual curiosity and was into everything. Anyway, she bought it for both of us and it sat in our living room for at least a decade. It was a book I grew up with. I absolutely loved it!

    • Thanks for you comments as always – it was a tricky one this one because the brief had a lot of conflicting angles – which is why I tried to cover all the bases.

So which is your favorite? I can’t tell from your comments how you “feel” about this one, only that it was tricky to do.

    • I am like a blade of grass in the wind … I simply move at the wind and whims of the client! Like a zen master – I have no opinion. Lol! We’ll wait to see what the client thinks – first. And then I’ll love that one!

Like right you have no opinion! Thanks for making me laugh!

      • The client has just come back to me and said – “I think I like ALL of them” – so I’ll run with that comment! That’s my opinion too. LOL!

Okay, I’ll let it drop. But tell your client that (whatever cover you guys put on it) he’s made a sale when it comes out. This is something I want to read.

CL, this may seem apropos of nothing, but it’s actually quite germane with regard to cover art. (At least it is to me.) Do you like Hockney’s swimming pools? The day is growing long, so I don’t need an in-depth answer. A few words would be fine. Thanks.

I can’t believe it, but I misspelled the great man’s name!! I thought at the time I typed it in that I was doing something wrong… It’s “Isaac,” of course!!! My only excuse is that it’s very early here. :)

Thanks, John! I’m glad to see I’m not out there in the galaxy all alone! :)

  4. Hi everyone,

We ended up going with Dark Building Blocks, but with a different picture. (And by ‘we’, I mean the author and yours truly, his publisher of sorts).

Christine, thanks so much for your interest in reading the book. You can find it here: http://www.amazon.com/The-Higgs-Boson-Bozos-ebook/dp/B009518QFG/.
