Presumably : A Book Cover Design

Christine Swinson, long-time commenter on my blog posts, and all round amazingly open-minded and kind person has been in touch for some work. YAY! The first one is for her husband’s book – which I think will be a fun read if my friendship with Christine is anything to go by. This woman has good taste!

You can read it here: Presumed Dead

And here is my redesigns of the cover. I actually like the last one on the list – in black, red and white but there’s something nice with all the colours on the covers. No I’ve changed my mind – I like the red gun on the green background – damn – I can’t decide!

Well, as CL pointed out, Tom is my hubby. He’s been writing for decades and about a year ago he published six e-books. (Another, about the JFK assassination, will come out in a couple of months.) Tom made his own covers and I felt they could be improved upon (as CL says: Never go out without your best jacket!), so I asked CL to make some new ones. Presumed Dead is our first joint effort and I think all of the choices are magnificent! Tom and I haven’t reached a decision yet, but I’m pretty sure which one we’re going to with.

Later today I’ll re-post with our choice, but I’d be interested in hearing the opinions of all of you out there. Of course, the tone and feel of the book pretty much dictate the choice of cover, but I’d be interested in which of the above is your favorite —just based on the cover itself. And also which one you would choose knowing that Tom’s book is a very fun, feel- good read.

    Let me know, would you?

And, to CL: Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!!! Tom and I are in awe of your talent and hard work…

    Thank you.

My favorite based just on covers is To Be A Large One. I like the focus on the gun and the boldness of the title. The title stripe and author stripe could be a brand. The It’s Just Text covers are nice and give the feeling of mystery and intrigue. I also like Fun Read, it’s less serious, pop art, the stains in the middle are a nice touch. Can’t wait to find out which one you guys picked. Very nice covers CL!

John, thank you for your comments. I really appreciate them. Tom and I still haven’t decided (it’ll be several hours), but I agree with you about It’s Just Text (the black, white, red one) and Fun Read. Both are very nice. To Be A Large One has a little too much testosterone for me, but I agree with you about the author and title stripes. Thanks again for weighing in.🙂

It’s taken us a while this morning, but Tom and I finally chose. And it’s SUBVERSION. We loved so many of the covers, but we felt that Subversion was a very fresh look and that it matched the playful feel of Presumed Dead. CL gave us other upbeat choices, but I think it was, in particular, the colors on Subversion that really won us over. Really the whole design just knocked us out. Tom’s 2nd choice was Classic Image. My 2nd was Fun Read. As I mentioned before, I really like It’s Just Text (black, red), but not for Presumed Dead. We wish we could use all of them, but, of course, we can’t…This has been great fun and I look forward to doing the next cover with CL. I’m going to have to take a breather first, though (LOL), as this takes a lot of energy!!
